Rutherford County sheriff’s school resource officers will sing and entertain while customers chow down on Toot’s chicken wings to raise funds for Special Olympics.
The “Wings and Rings” fund-raising event will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Toot’s restaurant on Sam Ridley Parkway in Smyrna. Diners are encouraged to donate to about 200 Special Olympians who will compete in a bowling tournament Oct. 27 at the Smyrna Bowling Center.
Special Olympics co-chair Lou Paschall invited families and friends out for a night of “good food and fun” to support intellectually disabled children and adults. Proceeds are used to pay transportation costs for the athletes. “People really love to see the SROs out at the restaurant,” Paschall said.
Co-chair John Harris said Special Olympians depend on the SROs and Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office to help raise the funds for their sporting events. “Without the partnership with the SROs, the sheriff’s office and Toot’s, we could not do this event,” Harris said.
All of the funds raised are used for the athletes’ costs. No funds go for salaries. The competition builds a spirit of accomplishment within the Special Olympics athletes. “We are creating a society of individuals who are giving back to society.
