When an early morning fire brought devastation toMarinaand Christian Deason’s home located at370 Park Court North, they lost virtually everything. Members of the LaVergne community, however, are rallying around the mother and daughter to help in their time of need.

First Tennessee Bank has set-up an account for donations.  At any location throughout the state, money can be donated to the “Deason Family Fire Fund.”  Additionally, the Parks andRecreationBuilding at294 Sand Hill Road is accepting donations for clothing and shoes.  The women need sizes 12 and 14 in pants, sizes medium and large shirts, and sizes 7 ½ and 8 ½ shoes.

Along with the baby simulator doll wake-up call, there were real people whose actions were heroic at the scene of the fire. 17-year old Christian Deason was able to awaken her family in time to leave the burning house. One neighbor called 9-1-1 and another saw the flames and jumped two fences in an effort to alert the family.  Real people responded to the emergency.

The city is planning to recognize some of these heroes.  Connie and Derek Oeser are being presented with certificates of appreciation at the regular meeting of the Board of Mayor and Alderman on Tuesday, November 1, 7:00 p.m., at City Hall. The Deason family plans to attend the meeting where they will also be able to meet several of the first responders at the scene.

The meeting is open to the public.
