Big Crowd At African-American Heritage Festival

Sunny skies and temperatures in the 60s on Saturday (10/29/2011) made a record turn-out at the annual African-American Heritage Festival.  The day was filled with live music from the stage in front of Historic Bradley Academy.

Vendors lined Academy Street while visitors savored everything from smoked barbecue to fish. The younger fans played in a large inflatible while more mature enjoyed competitive horse shoe pitching. Several civic and social groups were on hand to share their history. 

Art and Handmade Crafts

Artwork, jewelry and more were available at the much expanded Heritage Festival. 

Historical Re-Enactors

Dr. George Smith and his fellow Civil War re-enactors were there in full-uniform representing the 13th United Stated Colored Troops. 

 

There was the popular turnip green cookoff that always draws a huge following.
