Infusing the college curriculum with a global focus is the goal as MTSU celebrates international education with a lineup of free public events across campus Nov. 12-18.
The U.S. State Department and Department of Education are sponsoring International Education Week nationwide Nov. 14-18, but MTSU’s celebration will kick off at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, with the screening of “Soul Kitchen,” a comedy about a German-Greek restaurateur who loses and tries to regain his business. The movie will be shown in the Keathley University Center Theater.
Faculty will learn “How to Lead a Short-Term Study Abroad Program” in a 1-2 p.m. workshop on Tuesday, Nov. 15, in the Learning, Teaching and Innovative Technologies Center inside the James E. Walker Library.
The rest of the week features:
- a general-information session on study-abroad opportunities scheduled on Nov. 15 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Global Living Learning Community on Greek Row;
- the annual Study Abroad Fair on Wednesday, Nov. 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the KUC;
- Fulbright U.S. Student Program workshops on Nov. 16 at 10-30-11:15 a.m., 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. and 1-1:45 p.m., also in the KUC;
- “Moliere Than You,” a one-man show focusing on one of the world’s enduring comic playwrights and his plays, from 6 to 7 p.m. Nov. 16 in the Tennessee Room of the James Union Building, followed by a discussion of Moliere’s work;
- international students representing 14 countries sharing their food, culture, crafts and entertainment in a Thursday, Nov. 17, open house from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at MTSU’s ELS Language Center, located on the second floor of the Fairview Building at 820 Fairview Ave.;
- “An Overview of MTSU’s Education Abroad Programs,” a workshop to make faculty more familiar with international-education opportunities, scheduled for 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, in the LT&ITC; and
- a special panel highlighting Japanese language and culture, “Study Abroad in Japan: Student Voices from Sushi to Tsunami,” in Room S274 of the Business and Aerospace Building Nov. 18 from 2 to 3 p.m.
