Former Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold is seeking a presidential pardon.
NewsChannel 5 was the first to report he was reached out to President Trump. Arnold told reporter Nick Beres he was unfairly targeted after winning re-election in 2014 as sheriff.
In part of Arnold's letter, he claims "I believe you will find I did not do anything illegal ... I hope you will see, believe, and agree that I am not the villain of this story, but a victim ... who deserves the head-start on getting his life back ... Please pardon me."
Arnold plead guilty to wire fraud and extortion for the illegal sale of e-cigarettes at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. He is nearly halfway through his four-year sentence, behind bars in an Alabama federal prison.
