WGNS received several phone calls asking why there was more traffic than usual at the bridge over the Walter Hill Dam on Thursday afternoon. The reason... A safety belt checkpoint.
To emphasize the importance of wearing seat belts, the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office conducted a seat belt safety check point from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Thursday afternoon, July 26 at the Walter Hill Bridge on 231 North (Lebanon Highway).
According to a previous press release, drivers were only asked to slow down and not stop unless police officers spotted a visual violation. In the case of a violation, drivers were flagged to pull over.
