The Villages of Murfreesboro is set to host the 2nd Annual "Christmas for a Cause" fund raising event benefiting the Rutherford County Senior Citizens Awareness Network (S.C.A.N.). Christmas wreaths and trees are sponsored by local businesses and individuals and set up throughout The Villages of Murfreesboro to be auctioned in silent auction format.

The silent auction will run December 1 - December 10; highest bidders can pick up their winnings beginning December 12. The Public is invited to visit The Villages frequently during the days of auction to defend your highest bid for your favorite wreath or tree.

S.C.A.N. is a volunteer program created by the Rutherford County Sheriff's office. "Our SCAN volunteers check on the safety and the security of our seniors, many who live alone," Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh said. "The funds collected by 'Christmas for a Cause' will be used solely to improve the well-being of our seniors." In 2017 The Villages of Murfreesboro donated $1,300 to S.C.A.N.; all proceeds were used to purchase "life alert" type pendants for at-risk seniors in need throughout Rutherford County.

Proceeds from this year's "Christmas for a Cause" will be presented to the S.C.A.N. Program Coordinator, E.T. Guice, and Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh on December 14th. The Villages Executive Director, Terri Deal, says "there are many great organizations we could choose to support; we chose S.C.A.N. because we are already in the business of serving our seniors, it just makes sense for those in our own County to be the ones we bless." Guice says "no organization has ever adopted S.C.A.N.; we are grateful to The Villages of Murfreesboro for their support."
