A group of residents in Murfreesboro headed to court over a complaint that a neighborhood group home violated zoning ordinances. The case went before the late Judge Keith Siskin in 2014.
Opposing residents in the 1300 block of South East Broad Street included John Hawk, Tom Todd and Cindy Brumfield. The trio suggested the city failed to enforce their own zoning in allowing for the group home that was managed by Journey Pure. However, the local courts ruled that the house fell under the "Fair Housing Act."
After the courts ruled in favor of allowing the transitional home to remain, the case went before the Court of Appeals in Nashville.
On Tuesday October 30, 2018, the Court of Appeals sided with the original summary judgement thus allowing for the group home managed by Journey Pure to stay. The case is now closed.
