A 59-year old man is charged with vehicular homicide and DUI after a crash on East Northfield Boulevard. The driver's son was killed in the crash.
Bryan Keith Downing of Murfreesboro is reported by local police to have crashed a 2005 Honda Odyssey around 5pm Saturday near 1002 East Northfield Boulevard.
According to the Murfreesboro Police Fatal Accident Crash Team investigation, the vehicle was travelling westbound on East Northfield and struck the curb multiple times before leaving the roadway and striking a fire hydrant causing it to roll onto its side. The crash resulted in both occupants being trapped in the vehicle. Both occupants were extricated by Murfreesboro Fire Rescue personnel.
The passenger, 33-year old Bryan Keith Downing, Jr., was pronounced deceased at the scene. The father was treated on scene by Rutherford County Emergency Services and transported him to St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital.
Upon release from treatment, Downing, Sr. was taken in to custody and charged with Vehicular Homicide, Driving Under the Influence, 3rd Offense and Violation of the Open Container Law. He is currently being held at the Rutherford County Sheriff's Department under $264,000 bond.
