Murfreesboro is just a few days away from a potential increase in the hotel / motel tax increase.
The proposed increase will be heard before the Murfreesboro City Council on January 31, 2019 and councilman will have a chance to vote on the issue during its second reading. The increase would go from 2.5 percent to 5 percent.
Additional money raised by the increase would go into the general fund to promote tourism and secure economic development projects that enhance business relocation and employment opportunities.
If passed, it will be effective on July 1, 2019. The occupancy tax has not been increased since 1993.
