Segment #1: Red Cross looks at disaster assistance, blood shortage and the upcoming Heroes Breakfast. Guests are Janet Patterson and Ray Wiley.

• Blood shortage, only a 3-day supply of blood. Problem brought about by the holidays as well as the federal government shutdown. Military and government employees are a big source of donors, and those offices were closed.

The thing not to do is to build a wall around yourself and not tell anyone.

He also advises you to take a family member with you to doctor's appointments. Let someone else take notes and remember what the physician suggested.
