We have more news on three local schools being placed on LOCKDOWN Tuesday morning...
On Tuesday, February 19, at approximately 8:23 a.m. uniformed officers responded to the 1500 block of Bradberry Drive in reference to a subject breaking into a vehicle.
Upon arrival, witnesses told officers the suspect ran into a nearby wooded area.
Murfreesboro Police K-9 officers were deployed and were able to track the suspect.
Officer pursued the suspect on foot and spotted him about three miles from the original crime scene. He was successfully taken into custody with the assistance of Rutherford County Sheriff's deputies.
A weapon, believed to have been stolen from the vehicle, was recovered.
As precautionary, nearby schools were placed on lock-down until the suspect could be arrested.
Previous Report:
John Pittard Elementary School, which is operated by the City of Murfreesboro, is currently on lockdown. In addition to that, Rutherford County Schools Oakland Middle and High School are on Code Yellow lockdown, which is a precautionary lockdown.
James Evans with the county school system told WGNS, "Law enforcement has notified us they are pursuing a suspect in the area and has advised us to go on a precautionary lockdown until the situation is resolved."
Evans told us that the Code Yellow is the school taking a "Precautionary Stance," although the issue of a suspect being pursued was not actually on the school campuses.
