Being a police officer was more deadly than usual in 2011. Fatalities of officers jumped 13 percent in 2011, according to a new report from National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. Nationwide, one hundred and seventy three local, state, and federal officers were killed in 2011. This is the second year in a row that number has increased. In Tennessee, seven officers were killed in the line of duty. That number ranks Tennessee at sixth in the nation for having the most officers killed.
