(MURFREESBORO) Those attending Saturday (4/13/2019) evening's Masquerade Bash at The Center for the Arts wore cocktail attire and many had masks. It was a packed house for the dinner, auction and dancing. Plus, Andrea Loughry was presented the Arts Advocate of the Year award.

Executive Director Patience Long said this was the Center's most important fund raiser of the year, and the majority of the funds underwrite scholarships for needy students . . .

Loughry is described as the spirit behind the recently formed Rutherford Arts Alliance with a goal of building a performing arts center.

Loughry waved a magic wand over the audience and challenged someone to write a play about local women in the arts.

The proposed facility has two large theatres, one that seats 3,500 and the other for 1,500. In addition, the center would include an outdoor amphitheatre, and a two-story complex that offers gallery and classroom space, along with the Home of American Music Museum. That would include the visual and aural history of Uncle Dave Macon and all other talents tied to this area. This alone is expected to be a major tourist draw for Rutherford County.

Committees from this 501(c)3 organization are looking for 35-acres near the interstate to house the Middle Tennessee Arts and Performance Center. Initial architectural renderings show it to be larger than TPAC in Nashville.
