While a bill sponsored by Representative Mike Sparks of Smyrna did not pass in regards to eliminating the statute of limitations in child sex abuse cases, he worked with other lawmakers to make sure something was done.
The end result is that there will no longer be a statute of limitations in felony child sex abuse cases if the crime took place when the victim was less than 13 years of age.

The bill to be signed by the governor this week will be for child sexual abuse cases that occur on or after July 1, 2019.
