The Dodge Dart driver killed on I-24 last week (6/12/19) in Nashville after he pulled into the path of a tractor-trailer is identified as 31 year old Sylvester L. McCaulley III of Smyrna.

The crash occurred at 1:25 a.m. on I-24 east between the Briley Parkway and Harding Place exits. For reasons unknown, McCaulley had been stopped on the left shoulder of the interstate. Just prior to the collision, he accelerated and turned the Dodge to the right so that it was nearly perpendicular to the flow of traffic. The driver of the tractor-trailer, Gregory Mathes, 56, of Kirkwood, Missouri, was unable to avoid colliding with the car. McCaulley died at the scene. Toxicology testing will be conducted by the Medical Examiner to determine whether he was impaired.
