(MURFREESBORO) Dr. Stephanie Pointer with St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital gave life saving news about colon cancer to members of the Murfreesboro Rotary Club.

This type of cancer often starts with the growth of polyps inside the colon or rectum. Early detection of polyps and removing them usually prevents colon cancer. It is very curable if detected early. It is usually discovered in the early stages through persons getting a A colonoscopy. This is an outpatient procedure

Colorectal cancer deaths rank third after lung and prostate cancer for men, and it's third after lung and breast cancer for women.

Dr. Pointer's office is located in the DePaul Building on campus at St. Thoma Rutherford Hospital.
