Former mayor and one of the founding members of the City of La Vergne City Council, A.C. Puckett, passed away Wednesday (9/3/2019) at age 94.

He was instrumental in the development and incorporation of the City of La Vergne in 1972.

Mr. Puckett served as one of the original members of the City Council, and as vice mayor from 1972 until 1980 when he was elected to the office of mayor which he served for 4-years.

He then remained on the council as a commissioner until the charter was changed in 1988.

Puckett served again as vice mayor again until his term ended in 1990.

Mayor Jason Cole said, "His impact on the city is huge, being one of our city's 'founding fathers'. I deeply valued his friendship and advice, which began when I ran for political office. A.C.'s generosity with his knowledge, insight and time is well known and incredibly helpful."

Mr. Puckett began serving as Postmaster in 1958 which, in turn, established the La Vergne Post Office.

He retired in 1987. He served in the Tennessee National Guard from 1944 until 1969 with the rank of Lt. Colonel, helped form the Smyrna/ La Vergne Rotary Club and also helped establish Miracle Baptist Church. In 1980 Mr. Puckett connected the City of La Vergne with LaVergne, Lot, France as part of the Sister Cities program. Most recently, Mr. Puckett served on the LaVergne Housing Authority from 2000 to 2018 and the La Vergne Library Board from 2006 to 2008.

Mayor Cole continued, "Even after serving the city for almost two decades AC Puckett served others through community organizations like the La
Vergne/Smyrna Rotary. He is the definition and standard for the term 'public servant'."

Mr. Puckett was preceded in death by his wife of 63, Dorothy Louise Williams Puckett. He is survived by his sons Mark and Stephen Anthony, and his six grandchildren.
