The Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS) will host an art symposium Saturday, October 26 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Holy Trinity Community Church on Charlotte Pike in Nashville.

The free event is part of TVHS's recognition of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month and will focus on Veterans who have experienced intimate partner violence to celebrate healing through art.

"These are great events because Veterans take the lead in showcasing a broad spectrum of creative expression, performance art and art display telling the story of intimate partner violence," said TVHS Intimate Partner Violence Assistance Program Coordinator, Kirbie Anderson. "Those who have attended past events have commented on how much they appreciated seeing Veterans in this light and how inspiring it was to be a witness to such an artistic talent and skill," she said.

The symposium is open to everyone and will feature theater arts, poetry, a writing workshop, drumming, a yoga presentation, art displays, and community vendors.

TVHS is an integrated tertiary health care system comprised of two hospitals, the Alvin C. York Campus in Murfreesboro and the Nashville Campus, as well as more than a dozen community based outpatient clinics located in Tennessee and Kentucky. TVHS provides ambulatory care, primary care, and secondary care in acute medicine and surgery, specialized tertiary care, transplant services, spinal cord injury outpatient care, and a full range of extended care and mental health services.
