(MURFREESBORO) With temps in the upper 40s, it was a perfect day for the New Year's Day 5K at the Old Fort Park. A Wilson County runner placed first.
When the shot was fired at 11:00 o'clock, hundreds of runners ran along the relatively flat course around the golf course, historic Foretress Rosecrans and the Adams' Tennis Complex.
Overall Race
20-year old Dankel Smith of Lebanon came in first in the overall race with a chip time of 15:00.
Second place was 17-year old Fuji Anday of Murfreesboro, and his chip time was 15:13.
Third overall went to 30-year old Steelton Flynn of Murfreesboro with a chip time of 15:46.
Top Winner
Daniel Smith was the top male finisher.
The top female winner was 17-year old Kylie Wittman of Franklin with her chip time being 18:35.

This was the third time for the race, and it began in 1916 when Mayor Shane McFarland started the Better Boro Project.
Mayor McFarland said, ""We all know how important good health and fitness is to overall well-being and longevity, but healthier residents also make for a healthier community."
City officials describe the New Year's Day 5k as a family-friendly 5k taking place at Old Fort Park and on the Murfreesboro Stones River Greenway System.
It is a Better Boro Project sanctioned event. A health initiative bringing awareness to Healthier Nutritional Habits, Sustainable Community and Accessible Fitness.
The race was electronically timed, and every finisher received a medal. There were awards for overall winners as well as age group winners in the male and female categories.
