UPDATE: Auto Emission Testing Service announces expiration of Auto Emission Testing. Evidently, May 18, 2020 is the last day that auto emission testing will be suspended in Tennessee.

WGNS and the Rutherford County Clerk are reminding residents that your expired vehicle registration has been extended, so that you can continue to use your car or truck, despite your tags being expired.
This means that those who have expired tags will have an extension to purchase the wheel tax sticker and to update their vehicle registration. According to Rutherford County Clerk Lisa Crowell, vehicles with tags expiring in March, April or May will have until June 15, 2020 to renew them.
Furthermore, you will not have to go through auto emission testing right now because emission testing has been suspended until MAY 18, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The State of Tennessee has also announced that driver's license's set to expire between March and May will be extended six months past their expiration date.
Despite auto emission testing being suspended and expired tags being extended, you can still move forward with renewing your tags now as opposed to later. However, the lobby and interior waiting area of the county clerk building is closed to guests, so you have to renew by mail or online.

By Mail: If you decide to renew your tags by mail, you will need to include a check for $83.50 payable to the Rutherford County Clerk. Remember to include your renewal form with a check.

Again, vehicles with tags expiring in March, April and May will have until June 15, 2020 to renew them. Drivers license's set to expire between March and May will be extended six months past their expiration date.
Driver License: Class A,B,C,D,P and M drivers licenses along with ID Only identification cards, will now expire six months from their current expiration date. This extension is for those with a license that expires between the dates of March 12, 2020 and May 18, 2020.
