City Manager Replies To Questions Raised By WGNS' Listeners

On the February 8th WGNS' Action Line radio broadcast, the program was devoted to public concerns dealing with Murfreesboro. Everything from potholes to need for traffic signals were called-in by listeners.

City Manager Rob Lyons has been checking all of those concerns. Here is his written reply to some of the questions:

I have checked the areas that involve the Street Department and the following action will be taken:

(1) Blaze Drive was rebuilt with a profile that included curbs, gutters, and sidewalks from Fortress to a point just west of Blackman Oaks subdivision several years ago. The area from Blackman Oaks to Brinkley Road is the original profile of this road. There are no potholes needing repair, the surface is not uniform and this creates a rough ride. We have not overlayed this area because it is scheduled for reconstruction in the near future through the Engineering Department.

(2) The entrance to Hobgood School from Baird Lane does need some pothole repair and a widening of the radius on one access. The entire parking lot has severe alligator cracking, deflections, longitudinal and traverse cracking. This parking lot needs to be repaved in the future or structural problems will develop causing major repairs. I suggest the budget repaving at some time in the near future to avoid this situation. We will address the entrance areas and patch other potholes in the parking lot.

(3) We will patch the potholes that are in the right of way on Hamilton Drive near Martin’s Nursery, once the asphalt plants re-open.
