Several divisions of sheriff’s deputies are on standby in case of severe weather striking Rutherford County, said Sheriff Robert Arnold.

“We’re preparing for the worst and we’re praying for the best,” Arnold said.

He hopes the weather will allow the Lone Star Rodeo show to go on tonight and Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. at the Miller Coliseum on Thompson Lane near Siegel High School.

Because of the threatening weather, Rutherford County Schools Director Harry Gill canceled all field trips, including the rodeo show for special needs children this morning.

“We’re closing school two hours early and canceling all field trips,” said schools spokesman James Evans. “We want to be cautious because of severe weather.”

Arnold said preordered lunches ordered for the children won’t go to waste. The meals will be delivered to inmates at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center.
