A 48-year old Army Veteran living in Murfreesboro is very much alive, but the social security office and the Department of Veterans Affairs believes he is deceased. James Scott received notice from the VA that he died on March 5th of this year. Apparently, Scott is being confused with someone else who has his same name. The confusion has led the government to shut down all of Scott’s credit card accounts, bank accounts, and any accounts tied to the IRS. Apparently this mistake is not too uncommon. The Inspector General for Social Security says there are about 1,000 cases each month where this occurs in the United States.
