The 911 Telecommunicator of the Year Awards, held Friday morning at Embassy Suites, took time to recognize the dispatchers, those first responders behind the desk, who respond to nearly 100,000 calls each year. This year's honorees included Heather Pedigo from the Rutherford County Sheriff's Department, Janie Lawrence from Murfreesboro, Reasa Thibodeaux from Smyrna, Priscilla West from LaVergne, and Suzie Cunningham from Rutherford County EMS. Former sheriff and WGNS's own Truman Jones was also given special recognition. Lynn Questell, Executive Director of the Tennessee Emergency Communications Board, also addressed the need for the public to utilize cell phone assistance resources, rather than use old cell phones to make 911 calls.
