Islamic Center of Murfreesboro Fails to Get Certificate of Occupancy

The Islamic Center of Murfreesboro has not received their certificate of occupancy for their new mosque from Rutherford County. Chancellor Robert Corlew ruled that the county did not give citizens proper public notice in 2010 about the mosque when construction plans were approved by the county commission. During the court proceedings dealing with the mosque, construction continued on schedule. The mosque is now nearly complete, but without a certificate of occupancy, the religious group cannot move into the building.

The county has appealed the ruling to the Tennessee Court of Appeals.
