On Sunday, those who support the construction of a new mosque for the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro gathered at Barfield Crescent Park. The group enjoyed a large covered dish lunch, games and fellowship. Persons of all faiths, not just Muslim, were in attendance. Many of the picnic goers even wore shirts in support of the mosque.
The Islamic Center of Murfreesboro has still not received a certificate of occupancy for their new building on Veals Road. A judge ruled that the county failed to give proper public notice about the construction in 2010.
