Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department has added another special team to help with community needs. Instead of rescusing victims from burning buildings, the group provides safety education for area residents.

Chief Cumby Gaines noted that it's hard to miss a big red ten that giving away plastic fire helments and frisbees to kids.  They did that a few weeks ago at the Duck Derby. Gaines noted that team also provides a misting tent in the summer to cool down hot event-goers.

The team consists of off duty fire personnel who are either trained first responders or EMT-IV’s. Therefore, they are also able to provide medical and emergency assistance when necessary.

Chief Gaines commented, “The men and women on the Special Events Team are very dedicated to this department and to the City of Murfreesboro. They are eager to interact with the public and we are very excited to be able to provide this service to the community.”

The Special Events Team will make its next appearance at Uncle Dave Macon Days. Stop by to meet the fire personnel in your community or enjoy the cool sensation of the misting tent. Other appearances are scheduled for Murfreesboro's Middle Half Marathon, Harvest Days at Cannonsburg, and many other events throughout the year.

If you are interested in having the Special Events Team at your event, please contact Coordinator Tracy Summar at 615-893-1422 for details.
