The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has awarded sixteen law enforcement agencies across the state of Tennessee with state appropriated grant money to use exclusively for Crimestoppers programs at the local level. The Rutherford County Sheriff's Department is one of those recipeints, receiving $6,250. TBI began taking applications in June after the 107th General Assembly appropriated a sum of $100,000 to be awarded to local governments to institute a Crimestoppers program or enhance an existing program. TBI was charged with administering the grant funds. All agencies who applied received $6,250. The grant funds stipulated that no more than 20% of the money awarded to applicants may be used for administrative costs, supplies, equipment or advertisement. Eighty-percent of the money awarded must go directly to rewards for the Crime Stoppers program. The $6250 each is receiving will be broken down into $1250 for supplies, advertising, equipment, administrative costs and $5000 for rewards.
