Do you want to make a difference in your own community? Join literacy non-profit Read To Succeed August 30 to learn how to impact the literacy rates of Rutherford County. Read To Succeed volunteers can help in a variety of ways: they can train to be a one-on-one tutor in the Adult Literacy Program, help teach local English as a Second Language classes, serve food at local schools during Read To Succeed Family Literacy Programs, and help spread the word about Read To Succeed’s many free services and programs. No matter what, volunteers are making a direct impact in the lives of Rutherford County residents.

The training, held at the Lon Nuell Literacy Center in Murfreesboro’s First Baptist Church Thursday from 6 – 7:30 p.m., will go over all of the many ways community members can contribute to Read To Succeed’s effort, and offer ideas on how to encourage literacy in our community.

Read To Succeed Volunteer Coordinator Samantha Carter says the training is the perfect way to decide how your unique talents can make a positive difference.

“Some people help by being tutors; some people can help by passing out books; and some people can make a difference just by talking to people about how important literacy is to our futures,” Carter says. “Whatever our volunteers do, they’re definitely helping us raise literacy rates.”

Read To Succeed invites any interested members of the community to attend this training. To sign up, please contact Samantha Carter at (615) 738-7323 or volunteer@readtosucceed.org.
