State Legislative Preview Luncheon Gives a Look at Year Ahead

Tennessee legislators, both the newly elected and the firmly seated, convened in Smyrna Tuesday morning for the annual State Legislative Preview Luncheon.  Present were Senators Bill Ketron and Jim Tracy, as well as Representatives Joe Carr, Mike Sparks, Rick Womick, and the newly elected Dawn White.  Topics discussed included Obamacare (an opt out is the likely vote), wine in grocery stores (Carr is sponsoring a bill to allow it where liquor is already offered by the drink), internet sales taxes (none expected), school vouchers (talks are in progress over how these would work and if they’d be under state or county control, but nothing is expected to happen for probably another 2 years), and possible tax increases (there won’t be any).    Other topics expected to be tackled by the legislature this year?  Tuition control, worker’s comp reform, new DUI laws, and gun & private property rights.
