Smyrna Officer Accidently Fires Weapon in Police Headquarters

It’s never a good idea to fire a gun while indoors. A Smyrna police officer was suspended for five days without pay after accidently firing a semi-auto AR-15 rifle inside the police headquarters. Corporal Steve Martin will also have to undergo remedial firearm training.

Martin, who is a member of the Smyrna Police Department SWAT team, fired the weapon while attempting to engage the safety. The incident occurred after he cleaned the rifle.

No one was injured in the mishap. Damage to a nearby wall was minor.
