Murfreesboro Police are currently investigating a large felony vandalism case in the Steven’s Bend neighborhood near Joe B. Jackson Parkway. Unknown persons decided to use a city sewer pipe for target practice over the New Year’s Holiday. Terry Taylor, the City of Murfreesboro sewer operations manager, notified the police on Thursday that multiple bullet holes were found in the ductile iron pipe that was awaiting installation. The 18” pipe had 11-large caliber bullet holes in it and multiple bings. The damage was estimated to be over $50,000.

Evidence gathered at the scene of the shooting indicates that a homemade target range was set up near the pipe. No one has been caught firing a gun in the area as of January 4th. A vandalism that is valued at $50,000 is a class C felony in Tennessee. If the suspect or suspects are caught, they could face between 3 and 15-years behind bars and a $10,000 fine in addition to any restitution.

We asked Murfreesboro Police Sgt. Kyle Evans if we could obtain photos of the damaged pipes, but he told us, "ours are considered evidence and can't be released." WGNS will continue to follow this story.
