Linebaugh Public Library is extending an invitation to the community to come to an Open House on Sunday, January 20, at 1:30 p.m. “2012 was a busy year for the library,” says Carol Ghattas, Branch Librarian at Linebaugh, “and along with our regular services and special events, we spent much of the year working on a renovation project with funding provided by the Linebaugh Library Foundation. With the work completed, we want to have a chance to show off what was done and to say thanks to our patrons, Library Board, Foundation and Friends Group.”

“With a larger expansion of the library or new building being currently cost prohibitive, we had to get creative with the space we had,” reports Ghattas. “One of our biggest issues was lack of space for our Technical Services Department, which processes materials for all four of the system’s branches. With the funding we received from the Foundation, we were able to move our public computers upstairs, creating a very nice enclosed computer learning center and then allow the Tech Services Department some needed room by breaking out a wall.” A new Reference desk was built by a local carpenter, enabling the layout to be more efficient upstairs, and new shelving bought us some space in the library’s growing audio book and large print collections.

Ghattas sees that upgrading the 20-year-old facility will be an on-going process in the years to come, but these improvements have already greatly improved staff efficiency and service to the public. The open house will begin with a short program, with words from the current chairs of the Foundation, Library Board and Friends Group.Tourswill then be given of the library. Drinks and refreshments will be served. This event is free and open to the public.

“Our library has much to offer the community,” shares Ghattas, “and I hope the Open House will be an opportunity for us to show just how much.”
