The Center for the Arts will present Andrew Lloyd Weber’s renowned rock opera “Jesus Christ Superstar” for four weekends beginning this coming Friday, March 8th.

The show was originally scheduled to start on March 15, but producer Andrew Oppmann says “The cast and crew have created such a powerful production that it was agreed to open early to give audiences more chances to see it through the Easter season.”

The show will run Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 and Sunday afternoons at 2 p.m. through March 31, Easter Sunday. There will be no performance on Saturday, March 16 when the Center holds its annual fund-raising gala, the Backstage Bash, although scenes from the musical will be presented that evening to those attending the Bash.

The show is based on scriptural accounts of the final days of Christ’s life.  Director Renee Robinson says her goal is to make the Murfreesboro production uplifting and respectful, and she has included the resurrection not in the original play.

“I wanted to add that to revitalize the audience,” Robinson said. “It’s such a tragic ending that I wanted to give it one more punch. The way we’ve got this ended, I think there’s no way to be anything but excited and happy.”

Tickets cost $15 for adults, $13 for senior citizens (60 and older), students and military, and $11 for children (12 and under). For tickets or more information, coo;ntact www.boroarts.org or call 615 904-2787.
