A 24-year old man was arrested after police showed up at the address in question near the Fred’s store on Middle Tennessee Blvd. WGNS' Rafferty Cleary reports...
Verbatim: Officers say when they arrived they witnessed Benjamin Sterling throw something into the bushes near Sonic. It was later determined that the culprit threw a 9mm handgun into shrubbery and the gun was fully loaded. Police say the culprit is accused of stealing Bic lighters from Fred’s. Because Sterling is a convicted felon, he was charged with possession of a weapon by a felon.
Officers wrote in a report that they found a pipe in Sterling’s possession that had marijuana residue on the inside. He was charged accordingly. Prior to taking Sterling to the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center, the arresting officer wrote, “I advised Mr. Sterling if he had anything else on him to tell me because once he took it inside the jail it was a felony.” Despite the warning, a report shows that Sterling allegedly refused to tell police about two Xanax that he had in his pocket. Deputies found the drugs and charged him with bringing contraband into a penal institution.
More:
The subject was taken to the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center and placed under an $18,500 bond. Even if he comes up with the money to bond out of jail, he will not be released. Apparently he faces charges in Nashville for violating his probation. Sterling will be transferred to Davidson County after his court appearance in Rutherford County.
