The Murfreesboro Chapter of the Association for the Preservation of Tennessee Antiquities (APTA) will have their spring markings at two locations on N. Church Street from 2:00 to 4:00 this coming Sunday afternoon (4/14/2013). The first marking is at a 1934 structure, the original Rutherford County Health Department at 303 N. Church Street. The other is Christine Huddleston's 1855 log cabin home at 501 N. Church St., both just off the Murfreesboro town square.

Rutherford Health Department

The Rutherford Health Department was a Colonial Revival designed by famed architect James Gamble Rogers of New York City. This was built with Commonwealth Fund's in 1934, and had a similar structure built by that group in 1927--the now razed Rutherford Hospital.

The second marking this Sunday will be two-blocks down at 504 N. Church St. Christine Huddleston's home is a rare Pre-Civil War red cedar log home with a dog-trot. In 1934 a Greek Revival porch entrance with transom and lights was added, also full-length windows and shutters.

Local APTA President Denise Carlton notes that reservations are not required, but if you have any questions--call her at 615-604-0404.
