Councilman Toby Gilley took a moment at the April 18th meeting of the Murfreesboro City Council to report on the huge community turnout in memorial of the Boston bombings earlier this week, at the city-organized Boro for Boston event.  The Parks & Recreation Director took bids for this year's 4th of July fireworks show, set to take place at McKnight Park with a budget of $20,000, and council dedicated the tractor shed at Cannonsburgh Village to Dr. Omri Rawlins, who was responsible for the collection of historical tractors at Cannonsburgh Village since 1982.

The city received a donation of a vacant property on South Hancock Street for Rutherford County Habitat for Humanity, and the Greenways, Blueways and Bikeways Master Plan was finally passed upon third and final reading by a single vote.  Six public hearings were held of which only one drew any public comment; that was to annex and zone 1.02 acres along South Church Street and Lynnford Drive at Joe B. Jackson Parkway for commercial development.  Public comment was split about 50/50 for and against, and the measure ultimately was passed.  Finally, several more public hearings were scheduled, for rezoning along Memorial Boulevard, Manson Pike, John Bragg Highway, and Salem Highway at Cason Lane.  Those hearings are scheduled for May 16th.
