A cut-a-thon to raise money for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) will be held on June 22,2013 from 10:00 AM-4:00 PM at Georgia Career Institute, 1233 Commerce Park Dr. Murfreesboro, TN 37128

In observance of National Missing Children’s Day, Georgia Career Institute will join with other cosmetology schools nationwide to raise money for NCMEC.  Each haircut will cost only $5.00 and 100% of the profits will be donated to the NCMEC.

“Georgia Career Institute is participating in this national Cut-A-Thon because we believe that volunteerism and community service are important to the success and growth of our students and the well being of our community.” states Lauren Davis, Program Director of Cosmetology at the Institute.

“Research has found that more than 2000 children are reported missing everyday and that one in five girls and one in ten boys will be sexually exploited by the time they reach adulthood. In the face of these potential risks, it is more important than ever that parents and guardians teach their children how to be safer. NCMEC is an important resource in helping with this mission.” adds Amy Elmore, Program Director of Esthetics at the Institute.

NCMEC was founded in 1984 and since then has assisted law enforcement in the recovery of more than 157,720 missing children. The organizations’ CyberTip Line has handled more that 816,800 reports of child sexual exploitation.
