Not only has Tennessee been designated the number one state for both prescription drug use and mental depression, it is also one of the worst states for senior citizen health. Robert Rickman has the story...
VERBATIM:
Tennessee has been ranked number 41 out of fifty states for the overall health of its senior citizens, and 50...the very bottom...for physical inactivity. This means more than 350-thousand adults in Tennessee over the age of 65 are inactive. Also, more than 150-thousand Tennessee seniors are food insecure, meaning the lack of availability of food for seniors and their access to it. Furthermore, quite a few seniors smoke, dropping the volunteer state to number 41. Tennessee is number 24 for senior obesity and 42 for being able bodied, but only number 15 for diabetes. Also, more than one third of seniors have had all of their teeth extracted.
On the positive side: There is a high percentage of social support, a low prevalence of chronic drinking, a low prevalence of falls, and a low prevalence of underweight senior citizens in the volunteer state. This is Robert Rickman WGNS news.
