A La Vergne woman has died after a car versus dune buggy crash in Smyrna last Sunday. 43-year old Susan Hargrove was taken by air ambulance to the Vanderbilt Trauma Center on Sunday, August 4th. Smyrna Police Chief Kevin Arnold told WGNS News that she died of multiple blunt force trauma injuries on Thursday (8/8/2013).
Shortly before 10:00 o'clock last Sunday morning (8/4/2013), Smyrna Police responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Weakley Lane and Buttonwood Drive.
Preliminary reports are that a 2001 Hyundai driven by Autumn Schulz, 20 years of age, of Smyrna pulled into the path of a homemade dune buggy being driven by Robert Hargrove Jr., 42 years of age of Lavergne, and also occupied by his wife, Susan Hargrove. The husband and wife were both airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Ms. Schulz was transported to Stonecrest Medical Center.
Again, 43-year old Susan Hargrove, a passenger in the dune buggy, died on Thursday. The investigation into the crash is still ongoing and the Smyrna Police Department will present their findings to the District Attorney’s Office.
This is the second fatality for the Town of Smyrna in 2013.
