The fire department took a look forward and a look back at the Thursday the 25th meeting of the Murfreesboro City Council. Council heard the recommendations of Fire Chief Gaines to send 13 personnel to additional rescue training courses, and to remodel the women's locker room at headquarters to remove tiles containing asbestos. The department recently underwent a name change, and is now known as Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue. Chief Gaines also took a moment to introduce the new Assistant Chief, Kaye Jernigan. The mayor wished councilwoman Scales-Harris a happy upcoming birthday on the 30th, as well as a belated birthday to city manager Rob Lyons, who celebrated his last week. The St. Clair Street Senior Center will receive $5,000 from the Mid-State Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association to use towards workshops and materials in the Caregiver's Resource Center, to assist those caring for loved ones stricken with the disease, and the police department purchased a Coplogic Online Reporting System, a new, faster records management system that can also map trends in crime. And finally, 6 upcoming public hearings have been scheduled dealing with zoning around the area of World Outreach Church. For those interested, those hearings will be held during council meeting on September 22nd.
