Here's good news for the many area residents who work at Arnold Engineering in neighboring Coffee County. The Air Force has announced that it is upgrading the B-52 section at the Tullahoma complex. The nearby facility will be making changes in the B-29 Stratofortress which will enable it to drop smart bombs from internal weapons bay. The improvements will also increase the aircraft's payload by amost two-thirds.
10 per cent scale models of the giant Stratofortress aircraft are being made to be tested in the facilities famous wind tunnels. This phase of the project has been in progress since early this year. The model alone is so large that it weighs over a ton and a half.
Officials at Arnold Engineering say this is their biggest job in more than 40-years.
