Sheriff Robert F. Arnold pinned badges on Deputies Mark Logsdon, Derrick Helton, Brad Donley and Donald Mobbs. All four deputies worked in the detention division before being promoted to patrol.

Families of the four deputies attended the ceremony. Arnold thanked the families for supporting their loved ones and sharing them with the sheriff’s office.

Training Capt. Steve Spence said recruit class introduced the new deputies to the Field Training Officer program. Recruits completed classes in policies and procedures, domestic violence, child sex abuse, how to deal with mental illness, introduction to the sheriff’s office divisions, emergency vehicle operations, weapons retention, building searches, DUI detention and field sobriety tests, firearms, legal issues, cultural diversity, report writing, incident command and the National Information Management System, hostage negotiations, uniform crash reports, narcotics, crime scenes and latent prints, evidence collection, search and seizure, courtroom case preparations and traffic stops.

“We want them to better-trained to serve citizens,” Spence said. The class allows the new patrol officers to work as a team and learn about their duties before riding with a field training officer for 16 weeks of training. The new recruits must complete the state-mandated 10-week Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy to become a certified officer.
