In Tennessee, those who are on welfare are not required to undergo a drug test to determine if they will be allowed to stay on welfare. That could however change in the future. Some lawmakers in Tennessee are pushing for required drug testing for those who use the welfare system. House bill 0230 is being sponsored by Representative Bill Dunn of Knoxville. If the bill passes, it would require welfare recipients to be tested for illegal drug use. If a recipient tested positive for illegal drug use, their eligibility for benefits would be restricted for one.
