James Howse was a state champion football player at Oakland. He was the leading rusher and tackler for the Patriots on the 1984 football team that won the first state title since Central High School for Rutherford County.

Dave Thomas was the 2004 Mr. Football at Riverdale. He was a quarterback for the Warriors and was on the team during two of their four state championships (2001 & 2004).
