Local firefighters earned special recognition at October's final meeting of the Murfreesboro City Council.  Chief Roger Toombs took center stage and congratulated his men on their efforts at the 8th Annual Tennessee Ultimate Firefighting Challenge, where many took home first place honors.  Additionally, the department is making $70,000 worth of renovations to their headquarters.  The Murfreesboro Street Department will soon be demolishing a property owned by Habitat for Humanity, after determining the structure to be substandard, and the city renewed its lease at the corner of Walnut and Burton Street, where the Rover transit system hub will remain.  Final rezoning for the property being developed by World Outreach Church was passed through, and final adjustments were made to a grant between the city, TEMA, and the state Department of Military regarding final costs of the 2009 Good Friday tornado.  Parks & Recreation made an amendment setting guidelines on how to accept donated items to their parks and also announced a new program for city schools, FUNN, which stands for Families Understanding Nature and Nutrition, and aims to incorporate hands-on activities into the usual science curriculum.  Finally, City Manager Lyons addressed the progress being made on Project Tango, the code name for Amazon.com's plans to build a distribution center in Rutherford County.
