Veterans Tribute In LaVergne 11AM on 11/11/11

Few things are more moving than the sound of “Taps” being played on a solo trumpet.  From the soaring highs to the mournful lows, the melody captivates and brings listeners to a standstill.

At 11:11 a.m. on November 11, 2011, the City ofLaVergnewill come to a standstill as Police ChiefMike Walkerplays “Taps” in honor of Veterans Day. The city is holding a Veterans Day Remembrance Ceremony in front of City Hall that will include a moment of silence and introduction of veterans in attendance.

In addition to “Taps,” the LaVergne Police Department will fire a volley of shots to honor and thank generations of veterans who have served this nation.

The public is invited to attend this ceremony, which begins at 11:00 a.m.

“We want to remember the people who never made it home,” said Jeff Marler, Parks and Recreation director and former Apache helicopter pilot in Desert Storm. “We also want to thank and support the men and women who were willing to sacrifice everything to serve. Their bravery is to be commended.”
