Take a “Tour of the World” this fall without breaking out your wallet. Students In Free Enterprise at Middle Tennessee State University announce the 2nd annual Culture Fest “Tour of the World” event on Nov. 10, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. in the Tennessee Room of the James Union Building, on the MTSU campus. The event is free and open to the public.
“Culture Fest is being hosted in an effort to promote awareness and acceptance of our world’s many cultures and religions. After an overwhelming response from last year’s Culture Fest, SIFE has decided to make this year’s event even bigger and better. We are expecting between 250-500 guests throughout the night,” said SIFE’s project manager, Adam Williams. Upon entry, guests receive a passport to have stamped as they visit ambassador booths from around the world, and they then can submerse themselves in multiple cultures through education and entertainment.
The idea for last year’s Culture Fest 2010 came from a student from Costa Rica who wanted to present the day-to-day truth of Murfreesboro…that many people of different backgrounds live and work together harmoniously every day. “The MTSU SIFE Team and my senior seminar class decided to embrace a project which showcased the diverse members of our campus and community at large,” said faculty member and SIFE advisor, Jean Wilson. The evening’s events include storytelling and the opportunity for guests to interact with country ambassadors.
Guests can see and touch items unique to each individual culture. Fine multicultural cuisine will make its way around the room for guests to enjoy while watching cultural dances, musical performances and bands from the stage of the Tennessee Room. Also, in the Hazlewood Dining Room, visiting lecturers will present intriguing conversational lectures about their native country and culture and deliver details about the different activities and interests of their people.
