The Salvation Army of Murfreesboro and Rutherford County will serve Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday, Nov. 24, from 5 until 7 p.m. at the Corps' Center of Hope facility, 1137 W. Main St., officials with the organization said.
Traditionally, The Salvation Army has served lunch, but Lts. Joe and Lorraina Crawford, the Corps officers, said they chose to move the meal to the evening hours so it would not conflict with Journey Home’s lunchtime Thanksgiving meal and to be able to utilize more volunteers.
The Crawfords said 180 meals for seniors would be delivered throughout the community during the lunchtime hours.
The dinner, which will follow devotional and praise and worship music, is open to individuals and families who are less fortunate.
With the help of Allison Fraker's multimedia team at World Outreach Church and other churches, 47 turkeys have been supplied for the meal, organizers said. However, more stuffing (dressing) and candied yams are needed and welcome.
The Crawfords said a large number of volunteers have agreed to assist with the meal. Additional volunteers are not needed, but are welcome during the Christmas season and throughout the year, Lorraina Crawford said.
The Salvation Army, a partner agency with the United Way of Rutherford and Cannon counties, is a member of the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce.
